CLAP! The solar beach chair for working and relaxing at the sea.
Kiel, summer of 2019:
Living and working by the sea is very much in vogue.
In practice, the use of digital devices, such as a notebook, in wind and weather, far from the power grid is not so easy. The Kiel-based designer duo INNOPILOT
has designed a convincing solution for this: The beach chair "CLAP" is equipped with solar panels, sockets and lighting and offers two temporary workplaces with adjustable seats and a swivel table. The upper basket shell can be folded down and locked to safely stow the valuable digital equipment while swimming in the sea. The clever folding mechanism and the operation with solar energy are also recognizable in the name:

The product is manufactured in Meldorf in Schleswig-Holstein by the Stiftung Mensch, a social enterprise for people with and without handicap. The design is Nordic modern and consists of a natural-colored hand-woven basket shell with colored inner fabric, and a base made of white glazed pine wood. The seat width inside is 145 cm, which makes it wider and more comfortable than conventional beach chairs. Each of the two seats has an individually adjustable backrest, an extendable footrest and a swivel table with a power outlet underneath.
The hinged basket shell is secured by a digital code lock and can be locked in the open state steplessly to wait under even a sudden rain shower or to find protection against bright sunlight or wind.
The folding basket shell is secured by a digital code lock and in the open state it offers protection from a sudden rain shower, bright sunlight or wind.
During the colder days, CLAP can also be used indoors as a temporary workplace in companies or hotels and offers a place for relaxed and at the same time concentrated work. CLAP also offers a workspace for open-plan offices, outdoor areas or roof terraces of companies.
The first prototype was presented for the first user test in April at hub.berlin. The reactions of the digital target group were very positive. Also a few ideas and wishes were added, which are now being worked on. The product is available for pre-order online and is expected to be launched in 2020.
